The Use Of Control Valves
The main purpose of control valves is to control conditions. By fully or partially opening and closing control valves one can control flow, pressure, temperature and liquid levels. This is achieved by supplying the valve with signals from the controllers that the sensors monitor by comparing a “setpoint” to a “processvariable”. This differs from safety valves in that the release of substances is more controlled, whereas safety valves release substances once the pressure or temperature exceeds the preset limits.
There are various types of control valves, the most common of which are sliding-stem globe and angle valves. The control valve bodies are generally categorized as follows:
- Angle valves
- Angle seat piston valves
- Globe valves
- Diaphragm valves
- Rotary valves
- Sliding cylinder valves
- Air operated valves
